PROM-1 and PROM-1P

BURIED, TRIPWIRE-ACTIVATED BOUNDING ANTI-PERSONNEL FRAGMENTATION MINE

BODY:
Bottle-shaped, olive green, cast-steel mine. Externally smooth casing, PROM-1 is serrated on the inside of the casing.

DIMENSIONS: 
Diameter 75mm, Height 136mm + fuze.

TOTAL WEIGHT:
3kg.

EXPLOSIVE DETAILS: 
425g Trotyl + RDX (50/50).

FUZE TYPE AND ACTIVATION:
UPROM-1 combination fuze for tripwire or pressure activation is screwed into the top of the mine. Fuze contains an integral percussion cap. About 100mm of fuze protrudes above ground when the mine is buried. Approximately 3kg is required to operate the fuze in pull or pressure operation. Plastic-coated tripwire is usually laid close to or on the ground, and is sometimes protected by pressure-operated blast mines laid along the course of the tripwire.

SAFETY FEATURES:
A safety collar is positioned around the fuze, just below the prongs. When fixed it prevents any movement of the fuze.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
On activation the mine bounds above the ground before the main explosive charge detonates. Invariably any person activating the mine is killed by fragmentation injuries. Hazardous range is at least 65 metres. Base on PROM-1P is shaped with a six blunt point star. PROM-1 has a flat base with two small raised cylindrical portions, one centred and one offset. JNA Manuals state that PROM-1P bounds to 500mm, PROM-1 to 800mm. Fifth most common Anti Personnel mine in Bosnia Herzegovina.
