TMA-3

ANTI-TANK BLAST MINE

BODY:
Sometimes described as the “Cheese” or “Swiss cheese” because of its size and shape. TMA-3 is a caseless mine, manufactured from a single, cast piece of TNT explosive. A short, canvas carrying-strap is moulded into the side of the mine. Three fuze wells are moulded into the upper surface; these are threaded for UTMAH-3 fuzes.

6.5kg cast TNT.

FUZE TYPE AND ACTIVATION:
Three separate, Bakelite-cased UTMAH-3 Pressure fuzes operate independently; initiation of either or all fuzes will initiate the mine. UTMAH fuzes operate by chemical action: When the fuze is crushed, a friction compound inside the fuze ignites the detonator to initiate the mine. Mine will activate when a pressure exceeding 180kg or a side-pressure exceeding 25kg is applied to any of the three fuzes. An anti-lift fuze well is moulded into the centre of the base.

SAFETY FEATURES:
Removal of all three fuzes will render mine safe.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Non-metallic mine with minimum-metal fuzes. TMA-3 is normally buried so that tops of the fozes are at 3 to 4 centimetres below ground level. Also reported laid on the surface of the ground at roadblocks. This mine may be cut into segments, each with one fuze on its upper surface, to create three smaller mines. TMA-3 will severely damage armoured vehicles and destroy most types of non-armoured vehicles.
