I would like to congratulate our mine action stakeholder community on a successful year 2007 results in diminishing the consequences of war on a humanitarian, reconstruction and development level. Removal of explosives remnants of war either landmines, UXO or cluster munitions, still presents a vital precondition to the return and the sustainability of the live in the affected communities. ITF hopes that our results will encourage all stakeholders to address effectively and creatively the challenges that lay ahead of us also in year 2008.

In period from January 2007 to December 2007 ITF raised 25,745,391.38 USD of donations for Mine Action programmes and projects. ITF demining and technical survey results achieved from January to December 2007


239 demining and technical survey projects have been carried out with a total of 7,780,208 square meters of land cleared (more for demining results, more for technical survey results).


A follow-up to Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Victims Assistance Workshop in Banja Luka


The Second National Mine Victims Assistance Workshop was held in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 28 to 29 November 2007. The Workshop was a follow-up of February 2007 Workshop held in Sarajevo and again brought together representatives from the Entity Ministries, International Agencies, NGOs and mine survivors themselves. 


Switzerland donates for demining activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina


International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF) received a donation from Switzerland in the amount of 450.700 CHF. The donation agreement was signed today at the Embassy of Switzerland  in Ljubljana, by H.E. Stefan Speck, Swiss  Ambassador to Slovenia and Mr. Goran Gačnik, ITF Director. The latest Swiss donation, thirteenth in a row, is earmarked for demining activities in Sarajevo Canton in Bosnia & Herzegovina which will be carried out by the NGO Norwegian People's Aid.


Tajikistan rehabilitation specialists visited ITF


The representatives of Tajikistan rehabilitation institutions visited ITF headquarters at Ig, Slovenia. Fruitful discussions tackled among other the issue of Tajikistan requirements in the field of rehabilitation trainings, especially in addressing the rehabilitation needs of mine survivors. The visit was carried out within the rehabilitation training implemented at the Institute for Rehabilitation of the Republic of Slovenia funded through ITF by the Slovenia.


Twelfth German donation to ITF


Federal Republic of Germany has supported the activities of the International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victim Assistance (ITF) for the third time in year 2007. The donation agreement was signed on 13 November 2007 at the Embassy of Germany in Ljubljana, by Ambassador dr. Hans–Joachim Goetz and ITF Director Mr. Goran Gačnik. The donation in the amount of EUR 95.000 is Germany's twelfth donation to ITF and is earmarked for demining activities in Albania.





Memorandum on Cooperation between ITF and Colombia


At the 19th Session of the Board of Advisors International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF) held on 23 October 2007 Mr. Ciro Alfonso Arevalo Yepes, Deputy Ambassador of Embassy of Colombia in Vienna, and Mr. Goran Gačnik, Director of ITF, solemnly exchanged signed copies of Memorandum on Cooperation, which defines ways of cooperation in the field of Mine Action with emphasis on Mine Victims Assistance.


ITF Board of Advisors Convened


The 19th Session of the Board of Advisors of the International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF) was held on 23 October 2007 at Training Center for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief in Ig, Slovenia. On the Session ITF Intermediate Report for 2007 and Plan for 2008 was presented.


Autumn Session of the ITF Managing Board


The 31st Session of Managing Board of ITF was held on 16 October 2007 at ITF headquarter premises in Ig, Slovenia. The agenda included ITF presentation of the activities in period January-July 2007 and plans for 2008. Both of them were subsequently adopted by the members of the Managining Board.


UNMAS and ITF enter into partnership agreement


United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) and International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which outlines the scope of activities to be jointly carried out in the field of mine action assistance. The Memorandum defines the areas of mine action activities in which UNMAS and ITF will be cooperating in the future.


Partnership for the development of MDD capacity in Azerbaijan


Goran Gačnik, Director of the ITF, Nazim Ismaylov, Director of the ANAMA, and Nermin Hadzimujagic, Director of the MDDC, signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the maintaining and development of the Mine Detection Dog capacity in Azerbaijan for 2008.



ITF MoU No.12 signed with Czech Republic


The Memorandum of Understanding No. 12 was signed today in the ITF premises between Czech Ambassador in Slovenia, H.E. Mrs. Ivana Hlavsova and ITF Director, Mr. Goran Gačnik. The 2007 Czech donation will be used for demining activities in Serbia and rehabilitation of mine victims at the Institute for Rehabilitation of Republic of Slovenia.
